1. Definitions
1.1 Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (“CMAS”), is the world governing body for all underwater sports including underwater hockey. The World Underwater Federation was founded in 1959, and it now comprises over 130 federations from 6 continents. In addition to organizing international underwater sport events, it is at the forefront of technical and scientific research and development.
1.2 Underwater Hockey Association Singapore (UWHSG) is working with the National Sports Association (NSA) governing Underwater Sports like Finswimming, Underwater Hockey, Underwater Rugby, Free Diving, Scuba Diving, and other Sport Diving in Association with Sport Singapore. The National Sports Association (NSA) is also a member of CMAS.
2. Rationale
2.1 This accreditation policy aims to define applicants to receive UWH SG-Coach Technical Programme Level 1 Certificate accreditation based on their playing experience and/or prior coaching certification.
2.2 Obtaining a UWH SG-Coach Technical Programme Level 1 Certificate is necessary (amongst the fulfilment of other conditions e.g. SG-Coach Level 1 Theory Course, Foundation Sport Science Course, Standard First Aid (SFA (CPR + AED)) before a prospective coach can be registered under the National Registry of Coaches (“NROC”).
3. The Policy
3.1 To be registered under the National Registry of Coaches (NROC), all participants must achieve these four elements of certification. They are:
a. SG-Coach Technical – covers the sport specific considerations such as sport demands, sport specific training methodologies, techniques, and sport strategies. The course is conducted with a mixture of classroom-based and practical-based teaching. Assessment may come in forms of assignment, demonstration and / or examination. Technical courses are organized by UWH SG.
b. SG-Coach Level 1 Theory – covers the general principles of coaching such as sport pedagogy, fundamental movement skills, Safe Sport, sport safety and management, effective communication, Singapore sports ecosystem as well as impartation of values and principles. The course is conducted with a mixture of classroom-based and practical-based teaching. Assessment comes in the form of both assignment and examination. The theory courses are organized by Republic Polytechnic (RP)
c. Foundational Sport Science– The Foundational Sport Science Course is an introduction to various sports science concepts which will aid participants in their pursuit of other Sport Singapore Courses. (exempted for NCAP Theory certificate holder)
d. Standard First Aid (SFA (CPR+AED))
3.2 Categories of Individuals and exemptions
